LOOSENING OUR GRIP: WORKING WITH “STUBBORN” POEMS
April 9, 2025, 7:00-9:00pm
Unit/Pitt Society for Art and Critical Awareness, 2954 West 4th Ave, Vancouver
Poetry loves to drift, curve, and change directions. Inviting these qualities into our revision practice—in other words, loosening our grip—can help us work with “stubborn” poems: the ones that resist our efforts, that still seem so far from where we’d like them to be.
In this two-hour workshop, we’ll explore unclenching our approach to the page and tuning into poetry's wild, playful, and sinuous impulses. Participants will be offered a variety of strategies for this purpose and may (optionally) choose to bring one of their own "stubborn" poems to experiment with.
